Wimbledon Introduces Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Replay systems will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Players are granted the ability to contest certain rulings made by the official, mirroring the practice currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move comes just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to review other situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

A recent case occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another change at Wimbledon this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.

In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
